Audition

One of my all time favorite horror movies. Director Takashi Miike takes us on a lonely widower's search for love by holding an audition to find the perfect mate under the guise of casting for a film. He selects a shy, quiet ballet dancer who is searching for someone special herself. The film builds this horrible creepy feeling the whole way that pays off in the last act like very few films can. Not for the feint of heart.

GRINDHOUSE

GRINDHOUSE double feature trailer

Out on DVD is Quentin Tarantino's Death Proof followed Tuesday by Robert Rodriguez's Planet Terror. Both Grindhouse films are 2 disc sets, unrated and extended. I enjoyed the double feature in the theater but adding the additional footage made Death Proof come alive especially in the 2nd half of the film. I look forward to seeing Planet Terror uncut.

Radiohead - Creep

Creep

This song made me run out and buy Radiohead's first album Pablo Honey. The groups style has changed greatly since then and they rarely play Creep in concert (I've seen it twice maybe three times and have hit every local concert since 1998 on every night they are in town). If anything I think they tend to dislike the song but I have forgotten why, maybe because they moved past it sylistically. Still Creep is a great song and I think we can all relate to the lyrics at some point in our lives.

Radiohead - No Surprises

No Surprises

Amazing video. I can still remember the first time I saw it. I had that freshly in love high where you cannot sleep and caught it around sunrise. It is the only time I saw it aired on TV during OK Computers release. The small format does not do the video justice nor does it convey how hard it was to make it. Thom was wearing a device that filled with water as he held his breath. You can see the reflection of the teleprompter scrolling the words to keep time as they had to speed it up so he didn't have to stay under as long as it appears. Still it is impressive and I can't believe he did it.

This is a clip from the documentary Meeting People Is Easy so you can see what they went through to make this video. I'm impressed as hell Thom even considered it. Can you imagine how many takes it took?

Radiohead - Pearly

Pearly

As a kinda count down to the download I thought it would be a good time to share some of my favorite Radiohead songs with you. Off the Limited Edition EP Airbag/How am I driving from 1998 (believe this is still sold on Amazon.com) is the song Pearly. Thom York made it pretty clear at the Hollywood bowl concert it's about the people in my neck of the woods but I don't care. Great song and his voice is INCREDIBLE. I apologize for the Spiderman version I have posted, the live versions sounded poorly and I wanted you to here it as if you had the album yourself.

Neutral Milk Hotel - In An Aeroplane Over the Sea

In An Aeroplane Over The Sea

I find this to be one of the most hauntingly beautiful songs I have ever heard. Neutral Milk Hotel released In the Aeroplane Over the Sea in 1998 and I still listen to the album on a regular basis. After reading the Diary of Anne Frank he was inspired to write an album based around her life. I've included two other songs below.

Man versus Woman

I'm excited to bring you information about the things I love, products I enjoy, etc. but some of my interests are gender specific. So I am pleased to announce we will feature a second writer in the coming weeks. He is far more knowledgeable about film, books and music than I plus he brings his love of guitars, photography and home studio recording. As this blog grows it will have something for everyone and if you feel you would like to see something covered please let us know via email or the comments.

Thank you!
